In house Graphic Designer: Mail Boxes Etc. Chipping Norton, Oxford Head Office (March 2014 – September 2015)

This was a two day a week role which coincided with my full-time retail position as a Centre Operations Executive at the Mail Boxes Etc. Wolverhampton branch. Most of what I designed was to be printed and distributed amongst the Mail Boxes Etc. network of over 160 stores nationwide, briefs ranged from monthly editorial adverts to large seasonal campaigns containing several designs across different mediums. As my first professional experience within Graphic Design, I learned a lot about the print process and how to make sure documents were correctly set up for production.

Mail Boxes Etc.: Auction & Antiques Shipping

Mail Boxes Etc. had a range of different services; the collection, packaging and shipping of auction and antique items being a major one of them. Each month I would design magazine adverts for the Auction Trade Gazette, a well known auction organisation serving the art and antiques community.

Designs and sizes of publications would range from month to month dependant on marketing budgets. The following photo is a design for a full size page, images of each vase were provided individually and I had the task of removing backgrounds and collating them all together to create one eye-catching feature.

Mail Boxes Etc.: Football World Cup Shipping Campaign – Ship a parcel for a chance to win a football t-shirt

Since the campaign was shipping related, the concept was to use a cardboard box with a football pitch interior which would then be situated on a football pitch itself. I reinforced the brand colours by connecting the centre of the pitch to the ball itself. This was a large campaign that required designs for several different formats to include A5 flyers, A6 handouts, A1/A2 posters and 8 panels.

The design on the left is for an A5 double sided flyer, there is a blank white space on the reverse so the printer could overprint individual store addresses. The design on the right is for an A6 sized handout that would be stapled to receipts every time a customer shipped something in store. The cashier would then fill out the tracking details on the reverse so the customer had all the necessary details to enter the competition online.

Mail Boxes Etc. Wolverhampton

Brief:  Create a price list in the form of an A5 double-sided flyer containing shipping costs for sending parcels both nationally and internationally. The front was portrait and the reverse was designed to be in landscape format so the table would fit easily and be more readable.

Mail Boxes Etc. Reading

The Reading branch is situated in the University of Reading and so student services are extremely popular. The owner of this store required a set of new materials promoting shipping, printing and dissertation binding services to students. The brief was to create something vibrant and colourful to attract this target audience. Each set of designs varied to signify a different service.

Each design was also provided in the form of a poster and 8 panel large format display.
